Remarks

Item details
Remarks:
  • Of iron construction.
  • Both the bronze ear guards are still intact on the helmet.
  • On the front of the bowl there is a ring for securing the forward end of the crest box. Riveted to the top of the rear of centre is a crest socket of double tube type.
  • The three embossed steps on the occiput and the two on the neck guard are well defined.
  • The neck guard projects more at the sides than that of type D and it has rounded angular corners.
  • The 'eyebrows' are a little unusual in shape, in that there is no median ridge, only two ridges top and bottom that define the shape of the brows.
  • This helmet was photographed in an exhibition at Leiden Museum in 2007. It has evidently been cleaned up and restored since photographed by HRR.
