Remarks

Item details
Remarks:
  • The helmet is made from copper alloy.
  • There is a reeded copper alloy strip above the brow, seemingly soldered in position, although it shares a common rivet with the ear guard on each side.
  • The 'eyebrows' are elegantly curved and formed from three raised ridges.
  • The position of a crest holder on the crown of the helmet is indicated by a solder mark.
  • There are three raised ridges in the occiput region of the helmet. The sides of the helmet are almost vertical.
  • The neck guard carries two raised steps and it slopes downwards at a steep angle. A copper alloy carrying handle remains in position, secured by means of two domed-headed rivets. The edge of the neck guard is raised all round.
  • On either side of the helmet, just above the ear guards, there are rather ornate tubes for holding feather plumes. These are secured by a pair of domed rivets in each case.
  • The ear guards themselves are made from copper alloy sheet and are held in position by means of three domed-headed rivets for each one.
