Remarks:
  1. The iron skull is formed from two sheets of metal, joined together at the crest by a strip of iron.
  2. At the front of the helmet there are two 'eyes', recessed into the metal.
  3. A series of holes around the base of the skull was for securing the leather lining of the helmet.
  4. On the left cheek guard there is a single silver rivet with a hemispherical head. The right guard is similar but there is also a copper rivet there.
