Findspot: Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, (DEU). Discovered in 1827, near the road from Mainz to Hechtsheim.
Date: Flavian, time of the Batavian Revolt, AD 70.
Now kept: Vienna, Kunsthistoriches Museum, Antikensammlung. Inv. VII 2111 (given as N 5507 in reference No.3)
Dimensions: H, 170mm; B, 190mm; Th, 2-3mm

Remarks:
  1. Iron construction.
  2. The rather narrow eyes, nostrils and mouth are all pierced.
  3. Beneath the right ear there is a bronze circular rivet for securing the neck strap. The corresponding one at the left hand side has broken away.
