A cavalry 'parade' helmet, made of copper alloy sheet over an iron core. The eye sockets are merely suggested as are the eyebrows. The nose is quite broad. The mask has been pierced for the eyes, nostrils and the mouth. The covering copper alloy sheet is simply folded over at the edges.
The face mask carries the remains of a hinge at the top, where the mask was attached to the helmet bowl.
The cheek guards have survived but again display the same folding over methodology of fabrication as described for the mask itself.
This model compares with the more complete helmet from the Shelby-White collection in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, USA.
