Bronze, tall hemispherical helmet bowl with an oval shape. The cheek guard hinges are attached with round-headed rivets.
The brow protector was cast. Underneath there is evidence of a repair, done in antiquity.
The helmet plume holder is pierced longitudinally and is soldered to the helmet crown. There are also the remains of the hooks used to secure the crest to the helmet at the front and rear.
Punched inscriptions read: (a) "LEG - XXI[R?J (b) >.P.P.L.CVN[---] (c) [-]VTIC[ani(?)] II (d) [2-3]INI This can be interpreted as: Legio XXI, Helmet the... inus, from the of Century of the Primipilus L.. . cu(n)dus.
The helmet belongs to the Hagenau/Coolus type, which in common with the Weisenau helmet type forms the standard provision of the early-imperial infantryman, up to the end of the 1st century AD.
