Name: Imperial Italic H 2 (Guttmann)
Robinson type: Imperial Italic H
Findspot: Allegedly, the Balkan region, 'the banks or the bed of a river'.
Date: late 2nd – beginning of the 3rd century AD.
Now kept: Formerly in the Axel Guttmann collection, Berlin. Inv. AG 800. Unsold at auction (Christie's), April 2004. Presently resides in the Guttmann Estate.
Dimensions: H (overall), 255mm; H (skull), 168mm; B (skull), 207mm; W (neck guard), 146-153mm; Th, 1-1.5mm.

Item details
Remarks:
  • Iron sheet with decorative features in bronze sheet.
  • The black colour of the iron skull is caused by the preservation techniques employed. This is not an original feature of the helmet.
  • Although very similar to the Niedermörmter helmet, there is an additional decorative feature in that two small bronze figures of mice have been soldered to the back quarters of the helmet.
  • Weight: 1.73 Kg.
