Date: 4th to mid 3rd century BC.
Now kept: Formerly in the Axel Guttmann collection, Berlin. Inv. AG 441. Sold at auction (Christie's), April 2004. Purchased by Freeman & Sear on behalf of a client. Now in a private collection in the San Francisco Bay area.
Dimensions: (of skull); H: 180mm, B: 160mm, L: 215mm; (cheek guards) H: 132mm. Th: 2-3mm.

Remarks:
  • Bronze.
  • Of an Etruscan-Italian sub-type.
  • The plume holder on the crown is filled with lead.
  • Around the base of the helmet is an engraved 'cable' pattern.
  • Going around the helmet, above the cable pattern, are six parallel lines.
  • Fixed to the rear of the inside is a strip of metal, carrying two rings. These were used for the securing cords/laces of the helmet. Similar rings were fixed to the inside of the cheek guards, through which the tying cords/laces were led before being tied on the chin.
  • Weight: 2.010 Kg.
  • Described as "Montefortino-Canosa" by Junkelmann.
