Iron, silver-plated over embossed copper An oval iron skull, with bronze sheet metal covering, on which (in relief) is simulated curled hair in concentric zones. The curls are crescent-shaped and bent to the right and left alternately in the individual hair wreaths. This hair bonnet is framed by an engraved strip, that is doubled at the frontal side. The edge is fashioned more smoothly in the front, while behind the ears are strips of bronze with pairs of triangular leaves.
The bronze sheet metal coating sits on the iron cap diagonally at the back so that a crescent moon surface remains uncovered in front. It is possible that this area was covered with a layer of animal fur. Helmets with a hair-covered cap are represented on Rhineland cavalry tombstones of the Neronian-Flavian period.
Unfortunately the rear of the helmet is much damaged and the form of the neck protection cannot be discerned.
