The cheek guards have a very clear representation of the human ear at the rear, where they cover the ear recess. This type of helmet would normally have had a face mask of the 'Kalkriese' type, consistent with Cavalry sports, Type "D".
Where the rear of the helmet drops down, the angle changes sharply at the extreme end to about 45 deg.
A securing ring for the helmet tie cords is riveted to the lower extremity of each cheek guard.
