Remarks

Item details
Remarks:
  • Fashioned from bronze sheet.
  • The skull reinforcing bars cross in the centre of the skull of the helmet.
  • The ear openings are decorated with a wide brass sheet.
  • The cheek guards fit closely to the helmet skull. The cheek guards themselves have a flange at the rear, following the jaw line. Apart from this, the cheek plates are quite plain.
  • A wide reinforcing plate is riveted to the front of the brow of the helmet by means of three cone-headed rivets. This comes to a point in the centre and is almost horizontal.
  • Photo No.1 (c) Livius.org
  • Current photo of a copy in the Saalburg museum.
  • Photos Nos.2-5, (c) Jens Horstkotte.
