Remarks

Item details
Remarks:
  • Iron with bronze strips.
  • Wide bronze strips are soldered to the brow, around the ear cut-outs and across the top of the ear guards. A bronze strip decorated with punched dots runs down the back, from the crest holder to the neck guard. A bronze sheet 'pelta' device is soldered to the left corner of the neck guard. Presumably there was originally one on the other side. (This has been restored in the museum pictures).
  • The brow reinforcement is angular and rises to a point in the centre.
  • Apart from the brass strip, the ear guards are completely featureless
  • Photos (c) Jasper Oorthuys, Wim van Broekhoven and Mark Martin.
