Hemispherical skull with a deep extension at the occipital region. There are cut-outs for the ears and a rather small horizontal neck flange, resembling some of the cavalry sports helmets.
The illustrations in HRR (p.94, Nos.247-9) show the helmet
before conservation. At the time that HRR's book came out, this helmet was still being cleaned and conserved at Liverpool. However, the more recent photo of the cleaned and conserved helmet shows a crude
representation of human hair on the crown.
