FAQ: the visual databases PDF Print E-mail

Using the imagebase or any of the other visual databases on Romanarmy.com is very easy. Clicking the link from the menu will take you to the overview page of that database. It will show the first ten records in the database in the middle and one or more selection options at the top. There you will also find a searchbox. Finally at the bottom there'll be the navigation buttons to go forward and back through the recordset.

How to find a specific record or records?

- If you know part of the name, place or remember anything in the descriptive sections, simply type it in the searchbox at the top or even use the main search function. It will return all sections of the site where your search term has been found.

- If you are looking for a group of records (e.g. all tombstones from a unit), simply select the unit from the dropdown box at the top. It is possible to combine several of these selection boxes at the same time. For instance, if you select 'Ala Afrorum', a list of more than a dozen records will be returned. If you then select 'Cologne', the system will return only those five tombstones of that unit in the city of Cologne.

The detail view

If you click either the name or picture of a record, you will be taken to the detailed view. That consists of several tabbed pages: the main view with photos and basic information on the record. Click the one of the smaller photos to enlarge it in the top view. Clicking the photo at the top will popup a much larger view of that photo. Make sure popup blockers are not blocking romanarmy.com!

To discuss the record with other Roman army enthusiasts, click the link at the bottom of the main page.

The other tabbed pages will provide more information, an option to tell a friend about this record and finally the option to ask for more information with the editor of that specific record.

Want to contribute?

Yes, please! If you have photos of helmets or Roman tombstones - with images on them - we'd love to see them. Even if they are already in our database, your photo may add details we couldn't see before.
