LV. leg. VI Gallicana. Column 1596. Tr. Alexandr Kolouch

[1596]
Hist. aug. Aurel. 7, 1: idem (Aurelianus) apud Mogontiacum tribunus legionis sextae Gallicanae Francos inruentes, … sic adflixit, ut trecentos ex his captos septingentis interemptis sub corona vendiderit. The legion is named only here, therefore it can be questioned, with respect to the obscurity of the source, if a legion with this title has really ever existed. Yet the possibility that among the short-lived legions, which seemed to be many in the middle and second half of the 3rd century, was also a VI Gallicana and that it was situated on the Rhine cannot be denied.
